Take time to Self-Reflect

Do you ever feel that life is moving too fast? I think everyone can agree with me that twenty-four hours in a day isn’t nearly enough time to get things done. How about a “PAUSE” button? If only we can delay the hands of a clock, and time can slow down.

We are constantly racing against the clock, and time is always of the essence. It’s important that we are consistent in everything we do - I feel that we are own best/worst critics. No one knows you better than you know yourself. However, if we don’t take advantage of the 24 hours in a day to self-reflect, what does that ultimately say about our character? Perhaps it’s time to get your priorities in order!

What is self-reflection? Self-reflection or self-awareness is defined as demonstrating one’s ability to recognize their own thoughts and values, along with the ability to understand how they impact their own behavior. (mylearningtools.org). In the process, we hope to learn more about ourselves. Are you able to recognize your own emotions? Are you able to assess your strengths and weaknesses, all the while maintaining a sense of confidence, and optimism? Approach with a positive attitude, as well as an open-mind. The objective is to find a healthy medium!

In order to know what your strengths are, you have to be self-confident, but simultaneously aware of the weaknesses you can improve. Sometimes we beat ourselves up, in an effort to build our self-confidence, but we may not realize that we are instead, destroying our confidence. We should focus our attention more on identifying areas that need work, and what we can do to transform that into motivation to improve.

Here are some benefits to self-reflection:

  • Recognize/assess strengths and weaknesses.

  • Develops resilience.

  • See how your behavior effects others.

  • Recognize others needs and feelings.

I hope you are able to find the time to self-reflect, and see just how far we have come- confidence is the key to success!
